The North Hotel
is a small, family-and-friends-run hotel in the city centre of Chiang Rai. The ownership is partly Thai, partly Norwegian. We aim at giving our guests good quality and personal service to a reasonable price. We are centrally located in a quiet street with the bus station and The Night Bazaar in one end, and Sirikorn [silikon] Market, the fruit and flower market on the other, and within walking distance from everywhere in downtown Chiang Rai.

We have 14 nicely decorated rooms, 13-14 m2, with TV and mini bar. All rooms have private facilities and most of them have a small balcony. Two of the rooms even have access directly to the backyard terrace.

Restaurant
Our kitchen is specializing in Thai northern style food, but you can also find other Thai dishes on our menu. The idea is to give you the experience of the everyday kitchen of the region, like the food you will be served when visiting a Thai home. As The North Hotel is supporting the sustainable and environmental-friendly agriculture, we carefully select our food suppliers. At present ca. 80% of the raw materials we use in our kitchen are grown with organic fertilizers and insecticides.

The Turntable Bar
Our cosy little lobby bar has a concept unique to Chiang Rai: Here you can relax with a drink when listening to parts of our huge collection of jazz records. We have selected recordings mostly from the time before the music industry took control over the musicians and their art. The music is played in a volume which still makes it able to have a conversation with your sideman. To make the atmosphere complete, there will also be a selection of jazz books available for you to browse through.

Library
Located on the backyard terrace of the second floor we have a small library or book corner available for our hotel guests.

Roof terrace
If you want to elevate from the street level, the nicely arranged roof terrace can be what you are looking for – but sun block is recommended!

Smoking
The North Hotel is a non-smoking hotel.

Our environment
The North Hotel concerns about our environment. This has been a guideline for us during the whole planning and construction process. Practically all the timber we have used is recycled. The teak doors in the guest rooms are from young, farmed teak trees, and the hot water is produced from a solar heater system.

How to get here
Thai Airways International, Air Asia and One-Two-Go all operate on the Chiang Rai destination from Bangkok, and Siam General Aviation, in cooperation with NOK, has opened an air service with 12-seat Cessna Caravans from Chiang Mai.

Thailand’s fine-spun web of bus and coach services makes it easy and convenient to reach Chiang Rai with direct lines from many cities in the country, Bangkok and Chiang Mai included. The travel time from Bangkok is approximately nine hours by VIP-bus.

For those who feel the journey itself is as important as the destination, we can recommend the early morning train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, and SGA-flight from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai the next morning. A part of the train ride is of particular interest, as the train (narrow gauge!) meanders slowly in and out of green valleys in a hilly landscape.

If you come by air, we have a pick-up service from the airport (charge applies!). If you come by bus, the hotel is just one minute’s walk from the bus station (see map). But if you have a lot of baggage to carry, we will be happy to give you a hand, just inform us!

Chiang Rai
If you want to escape from the huge shopping malls and the turbulent night life, Chiang Rai is a place worth visiting. Many people have found this little city as a laid-back alternative to the busy and overcrowded tourist spots. Situated in the very north of Thailand, the city is the ideal starting point for excursions into nature and culture. The climate here is also more comfortable, Thais regard it as “the best in Thailand”.
